The Australian Embassy in Thailand in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music is proud to host the first ever didgeridoo performance in Bangkok by Mark Atkins, His Stories and His Music this weekend.

A descendant of the Yamijti people of Western Australia, Mark Atkins is one of Australia’s most prominent didgeridoo players. He has worked on collaborative projects with some of the world’s leading composers and musicians including Led Zeppelin, Sinead O’Connor and Philip Glass. His great passion is to share his own stories about his country, land and people through his solo shows.

Mark Atkins will perform at the Santichaiprakan Park as part of the BMA’s Music in the Park on Saturday 18 February from 1710hrs onwards. He will then perform at the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music on Sunday 19 February starting with a didgeridoo workshop from 1030hrs-1130hrs, followed by a one-hour concert from 1430hrs.

In his remark prior to coming to Thailand, Mark Atkins said:

“I am thrilled and excited to be able to share my musicianship, stories and music with fellow artists and the community in Bangkok.”

“We have all been separated for far too long due to the pandemic, and these opportunities to interact and exchange across cultures are to be cherished.  I look forward to meeting you all.”

Australian Ambassador to Thailand Dr Angela Macdonald said:

“It is an honour to welcome the talented Mark Atkins to Bangkok. Mark is one of the world’s most renowned didgeridoo players. We are excited for him to share the stories of Australian indigenous peoples through his immersive musical performance with Thai audiences.”

The Bangkok Tour is the final stop of Atkins’ Southeast Asia Tour co-organised by Australian Embassies and High Commissions in Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
