You will need to apply for a Tourist visa (Subclass 676) in order to attend World Youth Day. As a registered pilgrim you will be entitled to apply for your visa free of Australian Government visa application charges by following the process detailed below. You should also check your local Australian Immigration Office website for any additional requirements.
Please note that if you are a citizen of a European Union country you are eligible to submit an online visa application at any time free of government charges. To apply online please visit www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/visitors.htm
To make a paper application follow these steps:

Register online to attend World Youth Day (See: www.wyd2008.org)

Print a copy of the application form (number 48R – see below) complete all questions and sign it. Please note that this form is available in several languages from the Depart of Immigration and Citizenship website (see the link below).

If you are under 18: Print out a copy of the parental consent form (number 1229 – see below) and ask your parents or guardians to complete it. You will also need to submit evidence of your relationship with your parent/ guardian (for example, a copy of your full birth certificate showing the names of both parents) and a copy of identification for your parent/ guardian showing their signature (for example, a passport).

The following supporting documentation will need to be provided with your application:
• Your passport with instruction on how you would like it to be returned to you (for example, prepaid courier or self-addressed envelope)
• 2 passport sized photographs (no more than 6 months old)
• Evidence that you will be able to support yourself while in Australia. This could include, any fundraising you have undertaken, bank statements for at least three months prior to the application, or evidence of financial support from a sponsoring organisation or family member/ relative.
• Evidence of current and ongoing educational enrolment and/or employment in your current country of residence.
• Evidence of residence status if you are not a national of the country you applying from. -
Check your local Australian Immigration Office or Service Delivery Partner website for any additional requirements (NOTE: It is important to do this otherwise there may be delays in processing your application).

Print a copy of the World Youth Day, which you obtained when registering on the World Youth Day website, and complete it.

Lodge your application with supporting documents at the following Australian Immigration Office:

Australian Visa Application Centre, BangkokVFS (Thailand) Ltd currently has an agreement with the Australian Embassy Bangkok to provide Australian visa application services in Thailand. Although there is no visa application fee for a visa application to attend World Youth Day, a service fee will be charged by the Australian Visa Application Centre. A service charge of 500 THB plus 7% VAT is applicable per passport. For children below 12 years a service charge of 350 THB plus 7% VAT per passport is applicable. Additional charges apply for courier services. Payment by credit cards is not accepted.
