Exhibition 'A Secret History of Blue and White'
Contemporary Australian Ceramics

The Australian Embassy and the Gallery of Arts and Design, Silpakorn University present an exhibition of contemporary ceramics from Australia entitled A Secret History of Blue and White, to be launched by Australian Ambassador to Thailand, H.E.William Paterson PSM, on Thursday 8 February at 6.00 pm at The Gallery of Arts and Design, Silpakorn University.

Robert Reason, Curator European and Australian Decorative Arts at the Art Gallery of South Australia, will give a special talk on the exhibition and ‘update’ on what is current in Australian ceramics at the Faculty of Decorative Arts at 4.30 pm on 8 February just prior to the opening ceremony. Gerry Wedd, a representative artist will also be present. Admission is free and all welcome. To reserve a space, please contact Australian Embassy at 02 344 6462 or Silpakorn University at 02 221 5874.

A Secret History of Blue and White highlights the diversity and strength of Australian ceramics and positions it within European and Asian ceramic histories. While the reputation of Australian craft has grown steadily in Europe and North America, Asialink acknowledges the importance of sharing these developments within our region.

Each artist moves beyond the historical understandings of blue and white. By exploring personal ways to make (blue) cobalt ‘speak’, these artists add new layers of expression and narration to the already complex story of blue and white.

A Secret History of Blue & White is an exhibition project organised in partnership between Asialink Centre of The University of Melbourne and JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design. The exhibition has been supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It is also supported by the Australian Embassy in Bangkok as part of its ongoing public diplomacy and cultural relations program.
