The World in Painting
Contemporary painting by leading Australian artists

The Australian Embassy is proud to present The World in Painting, an exhibition of contemporary Australian art. From domestic interiors to dream-like landscapes, eight of Australia’s most distinguished artists present visions of their worlds on canvas that are at the same time highly unique and universally accessible.

While it is easy to think of painting as a conventional and perhaps conservative art form, The World in Painting celebrates the freshness and vibrancy that Australian artists are bringing to the venerable medium. And while the artists are informed by the rich diversity of life in postcolonial Australia, The World in Painting transcends typical notions of Australian art.

Curated by Zara Stanhope, Senior Curator and Deputy Director of the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne, The World in Painting features works by Gordon Bennett (also known as John Citizen), Amanda Davies, Diena Georgetti, Raafat Ishak, James Morrison, Boxer Milner Tjampitjin, Nancy Naninurra Napanangka and Elizabeth Newman.

The exhibition will be on show at the Chiang Mai University Art Museum from 5 to 30 October and at Chulalongkorn University’s Art Centre from 30 November to 25 December.
