Australia Day celebrated with a fine taste
The Australian Embassy recently hosted a reception to celebrate Australia Day at “The Residence” at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. The function was attended by over 750 guests representing the many facets of the Australia-Thailand bilateral relationship including politics, business, culture and the arts, and education.
Among the guests of honour were Privy Councillors MR Thep Devakula, General Pichit Kullavanich, and H.E.ACM Siddhi Savetsila; Education Minister Dr Wijit Srisa-arn, Deputy Finance Minister Sommai Phasee, Executive chairman of C.S.Capital Khun Chote and his wife Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, former Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suranand Vejjajiva, Former Education Minister Chaturon Chaisaeng, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence General Winai Phattiyakul, President of Central Pattana Plc Khun Kobchai Chirathivat, Chairman of STECON Khun Chavarat Charnvirakul, Khun Narongchai Akrasanee, Deputy RTP Commissioner General Israphan Snitwongse na Ayudhaya, and Deputy Governor of Bank of Thailand Dr. Bandid Nijathaworn.
In welcoming the guests, Australia’s Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Mr William Paterson PSM, said Australia’s relations with Thailand were strong – in business, government and at the people-to people level. “Australia will continue to work closely with our Thai colleagues to carry forward the gains we have made and to sustain what is, for both countries, one of our closest relationships. The range of work we do together continues to expand and to bring real benefits to both our countries” the Ambassador said.
A highlight of the evening was the creative and distinctly Australian cuisine, prepared under the masterful guidance of the hotel’s Australian executive chef, Lucas Glanville. The fresh foods and drinks were sourced from all over Australia – including South Australian Kingfish and Barramundi, Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon, Queensland avocados, Western Australian lamb, Pacific oysters, kangaroo meat, a selection of Australian cheese and a wide range of A
ustralian fine wine and fresh juices.
All guests received a surprise gift box on their departure containing the delicious Australian “lamington” cake and traditional Anzac cookies, professionally handed out by a pair of cuddly koala and kangaroo mascots.
