Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade


The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has the largest representation at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, reflecting its responsibility for the overall management of the Embassy.


DFAT's representation at the Embassy is divided into two main sections: the Political and Economic Section, and the Administration and Consular Section. The Political and Economic Section includes the Embassy's Public Affairs activities, about which more information can be found at "Public Diplomacy" .   Further information about the Embassy's Consular activities can be found at "Services for Australians" .


The Administration Section provides administrative support to the different agencies represented at the Embassy, not just DFAT, and is responsible for such functions as staff salaries and processing Embassy accounts.


The Political and Economic Section is responsible for overall bilateral relations with the Government of Thailand, and is the main liaison point with Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
