Project implementation in Thailand
ACIAR has supported a program of collaborative agricultural research with Thailand since 1983. Most of the program consists of bilateral projects, in which an Australian research organisation is commissioned to undertake a specified research activity in collaboration with a partner organisation in Thailand. Thailand is also targeted in ACIAR's multilateral program delivered in conjunction with the international agricultural research centres.
ACIAR implements its program in Thailand under the aegis of the Agreement on Development Cooperation between the Government of Australia and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand. Specific project activities are covered by individual Memoranda of Subsidiary Understanding (MSA) under this umbrella agreement, concluded by ACIAR and TICA. A key role for ACIAR and TICA in the process is to ensure that projects meet the research and development priorities of Thailand and that sufficient capacity and resources are provided for successful implementation.
Implementation of ACIAR's program is assisted by the ACIAR office in Bangkok. The office is located within the Australian Embassy and staffed by a Country Manager, and assistants. The Country Manager's role is to facilitate the implementation of projects in Thailand primarily, with an oversighting and monitoring role for ACIAR's Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos programs generally.
